Metals in Construction Magazine 2024 Design Challenge

Our ‘R-IOT’ concept has won first prize in the “MiC Challenge 2024”!

The renowned American trade magazine “Metals in Construction [MiC] Magazine” continues its tradition for the tenth time, promoting ideas that improve the well-being of communities and urban landscapes through the built environment.
This year’s theme, ‘Curtain Wall Design for Longevity’, piqued our curiosity. What can we develop? What contribution can we make? What approach can we take to further development? We wanted to take on this challenge.
‘Curtain Wall Design for Longevity’ called for designing a facade that impresses with the highest possible efficiency and whose components are recyclable.

We entered the competition with R-IOT. It´s a Revolutionary concept that combines cyber-strategic and physical maintenance operations. The aim is to extend the service life span of facades to over 75 years and beyond through precognitive maintenance and continuous monitoring on the Internet of Things (loT). Together with a modular, reversible design, this approach enables predictable and punctual maintenance during ongoing use.

The jury was convinced. They thought this is an exceptionally remarkable response to the task at hand.

We are delighted with the positive response to our concept and the associated first place!

It is encouraging to see that our approach not only receives praise but also makes a significant contribution to promoting a sustainable future. This is a significant milestone in our journey, and we look forward to continuing to push boundaries and explore new horizons in sustainable design.

We sincerely thank the competition jury for their recognition and the thoughtful discussion of our concept. Their feedback was invaluable to us.

Please watch the webinar recording to learn more about our contribution and the jury evaluation. The link to it is available at the end of this article.

R-IOT was developed by the Priedemann Facade Experts: Puttakhun Vongsingha, Natchai Suwannapruk, Godo Zabur Singh Ubhi, Jens Böke, Paul-Rouven Denz, and Lars Anders.
